Why Railborn is built around a crew

The survival loop splits naturally into jobs that fight each other for one person's attention: someone salvages outside, someone builds and rearranges cars, someone runs the farms, someone watches power and water meters. Official media leans into this, showing multiple characters working in and around the train. Nothing stops you from playing solo, but a crew turns the train into a project instead of a checklist.

Suggested roles for a four-player crew

• Salvager: leaves the train on stops, hauls raw materials, spots rare plants.
• Builder: owns the build tool and the layout, keeps floors and modules sane.
• Farmer: manages planters and watering, plans the greenhouse cars.
• Engineer: runs power and water, watches the meters, drives.

These roles are our suggestion for dividing work, not an official mechanic. The game does not announce a class system; every player can do everything.

What is not confirmed yet

• How hosting works, whether saves are host-owned or shared, and drop-in behavior.
• Progression rules for players joining mid-campaign.
• Voice chat, ping systems and other communication tooling.

Playing solo instead

Single-player is explicitly supported, and the train format suits it: slow expansion, careful meter management and no coordination overhead.
