Weather: the train is your shelter

The July blog describes Railborn's weather as a force to respect: when a thunderstorm rolls in, your train quickly becomes your best friend, keeping you dry and safe from the elements. A sandstorm gets a mention in the same breath. The developers say the weather looks amazing and matters in game, but the full weather table has not been published.

Tunnels and the tunnel biome

Earlier builds had temporary tunnels; the new system is dynamic and takes any track running through a mountain, adding a tunnel, including a tunnel biome. The blog notes it will likely be extended to the ocean as well. Tunnels also matter for your build: the official playtest pics joke about train height limits ending badly in one.

Bypass switches and secret tracks

Not every track is available from the start. Beyond upgrading your train to overcome inclines and weather effects, you explore on foot to open secret track bypasses. Most are indicated by a bypass tower, and the developers promise a few are kept secret.
