A public demo is now officially scheduled: Oct-Nov 2026. The September schedule update plans the demo in waves, up for about a week at a time while the team iterates. Private playtests continue in parallel.

Demo versus playtest
A demo is a public, downloadable slice anyone can try. A playtest is a limited, invitation-style round where selected players run a private build. Railborn has had the second, not the first. The original sign-up opened in March 2026 as an official form that ran for about a week and is now closed; the developers say they still draw testers from that list, and rounds are announced in the developer Discord.
How to get into the next playtest
- Wait for the official Steam sign-up: planned for Dec 2026-Mar 2027 on the store page. It has not appeared yet; the official wording is "whenever that appears".
- Join the official Discord where test waves are announced.
- Wishlist the game so launch and test news reach your Steam queue.
A warning about "free download" pages
Search results for Railborn include sites offering free downloads and torrents. These are not official, they are illegal, and several are simply malware. There is no legitimate free version of Railborn outside official playtests. If a page offers a "Railborn demo download" today, it is either fake or stolen.
The official demo plan
Per the 2026-09-12 schedule update, the public demo runs Oct-Nov 2026: live for about a week, then taken down to iterate, repeating in waves. Demos used inside the private playtests are how the team is testing single-player and multiplayer; the public demo's own scope has not been announced. Demos are real work for a two-person team, which is why earlier demo opportunities (such as the PvE Fest) were skipped.
